Karen Swirsky, ACIP
Ms. Swirsky has more than 25 years of experience in land use planning and public involvement. Her area of special emphasis is downtown, bicycle and pedestrian planning. Most recently, she was a Senior Associate at David Evans and Associates, Inc.
Her knowledge and interest in land use and transportation issues has led to her current and past appointments to the statewide transportation planning committees, including the Oregon Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee, where she served for over nine years. Karen currently serves on the Board for the Oregon Downtown Development Association. She also serves on the Oregon Transportation Enhancement Projects Selection Committee.
She has a M.S. in Biology from California State University at Los Angeles and an undergraduate degree in art and writing from Scripps College in Claremont, California. Karen is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners and has completed the National Charrette Institute Public Facilitator program.
Karen was the project manager for “When a Highway Runs Through It… A Handbook for Oregon Communities”, which was Outstanding Planning Award for a Project/Program/Tool, American Planning Association, 2002.
Karen is married to Nils Eddy, and has lived in Bend since 1989. They have three cats. Her hobbies are hiking, cross-country skiing, canoeing, nature watching, reading, gardening, and belly dancing.
