Gretchen has been involved in the building business since 1977, assisting her life and business partner, Vernon C.Palmer, in building the Palmer Homes company. Her background has not always been construction, graduating from the University of Oregon in elementary education. After running her own pre-school, owning and managing two restaurants, and with a growing family of four children , she began work full time with Palmer Homes as bookkeeper, customer service and warranty manager.
Today, with her husband and a of team 15 employees, Gretchen is Vice President, Secretary/Treasurer of Palmer Homes and Palmer Homes Sales. She is also a licensed Oregon Real Estate Principal Broker.
Gretchen is currently Oregon Home Builders Association Vice President and serves on the National Association of Home Builders Single Family Production Committee.
She has been very active in land use issues in Central Oregon, including working on the development code update for Bend over the past six years. She was appointed to the Governor’s Task Force on Land Use Planning, the Big Look committee, in 2006.
