“Building a Better Bend” Seeks Lecture Sponsors for 2008

Bend, Oregon– July 2, 2008 – Nonprofit organization, Building a Better Bend (BBB), today announced that it is seeking sponsorships for its 2008 lecture series. The organization, which was founded in 2003, presents three annual lectures with a core objective of positively impacting the quality of development and growth in Bend and the surrounding region.

“We rely completely on sponsorships from local businesses and individuals in order to make this lecture series a reality,” said Kirk Schueler, board member for the BBB. “Bringing in industry experts and creating a discussion of how to apply good practices to our region is a vital part of growing our region. We are looking forward to working with community businesses again in order to bring this valuable information to Central Oregonians.”

The audience for the annual lectures is primarily comprised of planners, real estate development professionals, architects, builders, engineers, real estate brokers, elected and volunteer office holders, and the general public. BBB focuses on bringing expert lecturers in from outside the region who can present innovative ideas and examples of things that have worked in other areas.

Three expert speakers from around the country have committed to be a part of the 2008 series:

September 18: “The Economic Benefits of Public Transportation.”

September 29: “Master-planned Communities”
Robert Grow, Senior Counsel, O’Melveny & Myers, Salt Lake City, UT NOTE: This lecture has been canceled – 9-4-08.

October 23:“Progress in Urban Environmental Design: Revolutionary Stormwater Systems.”
Bruce Ferguson, Franklin Professor of Landscape Architecture
School of Environmental Design, University of Georgia

Two Gold ($1,000) and four Silver ($500) Sponsorships are available for each lecture. All lectures are scheduled to take place at St. Charles Medical Center in the Center for Health and Learning from 6:30-8:30pm.
